Luis Suarez told Barcelona to sign Darwin Nunez

Luis Suarez has revealed that he urged Barcelona to sign compatriot Darwin Nunez while he was still at the Camp Nou.

Nunez is one of the hottest properties in Europe at the minute. Having impressed in Portugal, the 22-year-old brought his form into the Champions League, where he was influential as Benfica defeated Barcelona 3-0.

Sadly for Barcelona fans who were watching the game in awe of the striker, they could have had him on their books several years earlier, had the club’s hierarchy listened to Luis Suarez.

“They asked me and I said ‘look after this guy, he’s very interesting’, but they said no, he’s at Almeria, he’s very young. But instead of paying now 80, 90, or 100 million, they would have paid 15 or 20.”

According to Portuguese outlet Record (as cited by Sport Witness), Nunez’s buyout clause at Benfica stands at an eye-watering €150m [£127.1m]. It’s a very expensive mistake for Barca to rectify.

Barcelona consider move for Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga could reportedly emerge as a transfer target for Barcelona.

Kepa is still the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, a record that is likely to stand for years to come, even in the stupidly inflated transfer climate of current.

However, the Spaniard has been unable to nail down the starting spot between the sticks at Stamford Bridge long-term, despite having signed a seven-year contract.

Kepa underperformed under Frank Lampard and was subsequently replaced by the brilliant Edouard Mendy. He now has to patiently wait for cup opportunities and penalty shootout cameos.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona could provide the Spaniard with the opportunity to make more of his career than that by replacing Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the Nou Camp.

The report claims that there are no certainties over the future of ter Stegen, with Barcelona likely to be considering alternative options in the weeks and months ahead.

Ex-Leeds United goalkeeper predicts new January signing for Bielsa

Leeds United could be looking to provide defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips with some competition.

That is the view of former Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, who has sensationally predicted that he believes his old club will look to reinforce their midfield once the January transfer window opens.

Phillips, 25, has been a mainstay in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team plans.

Having helped guide the side to promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the 2019-20 season, Phillips has seen his stock rise dramatically.

Following what has been a hugely impressive spell with his boyhood club Leeds, the talented midfielder has also forced his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

A standout performer during this summer’s delayed Euros 2020, the 25-year-old has since seen his name linked with a host of top clubs.

However, seemingly committed to the club that has made him, Phillips is expected to sign a contract extension in the near future.

Despite this though, Kenny expects the club to dip into the winter market in search of a new defensive midfielder in order to provide cover for Phillips, who is currently out injured.

“When he has been out, they have struggled and missed him massively,” Kenny told Football Insider. “I don’t think it’s a big injury but it makes you think. We have seen him pick up a few little niggles over the past couple of seasons.

“I’m sure they are already looking to sign people in the January window. You have to start doing your business early.

“I think a midfielder, someone who can play that role at the base of midfield, will be a top priority.“
